Climate

The winter was generally mild and rainy, with temperatures rarely below 0 °C.
Spring began with warm temperatures that lead to an early sprouting of all grape varieties.
The month of June bring about a very unusual summer: low temperatures frequent and heavy rainfalls.
This caused a significant delay of grape ripening, due to the low solar radiation of July.
Instead, August and September were full of sunny days, warm temperature during the day and fresh nights.
This has allowed a harvest without too much difficulty, ensuring healthy good quality grapes.

Vinification
The grapes stem from 17-18 year-old vineyards located on Spello and Assisi hills, at around 400 meters of altitude. The medium-textured soil is relatively loose, shallow, rich in high-porosity and high-permeability stones due to the alteration of the original sandstones. Harvest started after the middle of August with Chardonnay followed by Grechetto. Grapes are worked separately so that to guarantee the proper development of both varieties. Once harvested, the grapes are moved to the winery and immediately de-stemmed. In this phase, they are cooled by dry ice to 10°C and macerated in the press for some hours: the quick temperature drop and the action by the cold on the peel allows for a suitable aromatic extraction and – creating an oxygen-free environment – protects grapes from oxidation. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in 228-liter, French oak barriques, where the malolactic fermentation will take place too. The wine refines in barriques for 4 months and in bottles for at least 1 year.

Alcoholic Content: 14% vol. - Total Acidity: 5.80 g/L - Dry Extract: 28.00 g/L

Background
The first vintage of Villa Fidelia Bianco dates back to 1990.
In 1998, Sportoletti winery started collaborating with Riccardo Cotarella who changed the way vineyards are managed in addition to wine making techniques. Thanks to his expertise, Villa Fidelia Bianco acquires its own identity.
The name Villa Fidelia® refers to a nineteenth-century villa which is just 500 meters far from the winery and represents the town of Spello from the historical and cultural standpoints.
